This past weekend we celebrated Unity's 9 month birthday. Its hard to believe that she is nine months old. She has quickly grown into a little girl with her own personality and antics that only she can pull off.
Unity has really gotten into her routines lately. She loves to crawl in circles around the house and if she is neked than she will take off as fast as she can, so fast that she does not even lift her head. She has developed a very fond habit of sleeping on me and Jess any chance she gets. Nap time in her crib is still difficult especially when she wants to take a nap on me. Unity also loves her bath time. She will stand at the tub when its filling up with such excitement. She lifts her leg to try and climb in. We are sure she will be able to get in the tub on her own within the next few weeks, unfortunately.
Unity has definitely backed off the attempts at walking. She seems very content with crawling around. She stands up at any chance she gets but will realizes that crawling will get her where she wants to go faster. We are unsure when she will start walking. Every day she seems to get a quick bout of determination.
Unity has been learning new words lately. She has been calling me "adah" for a while now and has recently starting calling Jessica "mamama" and calls Belle "bebah". She is very interactive with everything around her and has been playing with her toys alone. She is very independent and super inquisitive.
We look forward to the new year with Unity and all the exciting changes we are faced with this coming year!
Yesterday we celebrated Unity's first Christmas. Christmas has always been a very busy holiday for Jessica and I. This year we took it easy for the day and just had a nice quiet time with Unity, friends and a Christmas bowl of smoking bishop.
We start our festivities on the Winter Solstice and end the day after Christmas. On Christmas Eve Uncle Chris came over and had dinner, drinks and made the evening that much more merry. Unity loves Uncle Chris and always enjoys having him around. After dinner we decorated this years Yule log with clippings from our gardens and attached our Yule tide wishes. The decorated Yule log remains in display in the fireplace until Christmas night. After Unity went to sleep we brought down her presents, wrapped them and put them under the tree. Jessica and I finished off the night with a few drinks and reminisced past Christmas' and all the times we have had.
On Christmas morning Unity woke up to her first Christmas as well as her first white Christmas. She was excited to open her presents and got a kick out of Belle's excitement. Belle loves Christmas morning and gets all into his presents and the wrapping paper. Unity eventually found her favorite present. Unfortunately it was not hers but Belle's. I don't think he minds sharing.
We spent the remainder of the day playing with Unity, eating, drinking and relaxing around the tree and fire. We doused our Yule log with some choice beer and tossed it into the fire as we sat around keeping warm. We let Unity stay up as late as she wanted and she fell asleep on the floor with her new toys and Belle.
We don't think Unity will remember this Christmas but we sure will. Merry Christmas!
Today Unity started her first winter solstice celebration. We will celebrate the coming of the winter solstice all week and finish our celebration at the end of Christmas Day. As an added bonus to our celebrations she also experienced her first blizzard this past weekend. Happy Winter Solstice!
Unity has shown much love for the winter season so far. She loves the cold, the snow, and the new textures and colors the season brings. This past weekend Unity enjoyed her first New England blizzard and consequently her first snow day when mommy gets to stay home. Unity played with us in the snow during the storm and enjoyed the indoor activities that are extra fun when snowed in.
Today Unity went sledding for her first time. As expected she had a blast! We spent about an hour outside and her little cheeks are all red and wind burn. Clearly a bit of foreshadowing into her future life of skiing. She did not want to come inside but once in she enjoyed the cozy house and playtime around the Christmas tree.
Unity also has been on a teeth spree! She now has her two front bottom teeth, two front top teeth, and her bottom side teeth are pushing through. She currently has five teeth exposed. We are excited about this but poor Unity is SUFFERING the new teeth!
We are happy the celebration is here and Unity is having a blast with it!
