This past weekend we took Unity up to the Pettigrew family cabin in Randolph, N.H. We enjoyed a quiet escape from the RI heat and had some quality family time together. To date this was Unity's farthest trip from home.
We arrived at the cabin on Saturday morning and spent the day hanging around the cabin, visiting some local syrup makers and sitting around the fire. We had a very clear night Saturday and after Unity went to sleep Jessica and I sat around the telescope spotting Jupiter, a waxing gibbous moon, and a few other beautiful stars.
Sunday brought cooler weather and a nice breeze that lasted all day. We sat around the fire and relaxed for the morning. Later we took Unity down to the Israel River. She loved watching the water move and was mesmerized by the sounds.
Unity made the trip up and back during the day time. We were a bit nervous about taking this trip during her awake time but Unity again proved to be a trooper! In the future we will still be cautious about daytime travel. Unity may have been fine this time but she has made it clear that she does not like the car.
Unity has been going through a lot of changes lately. She has starting sampling everything with her mouth. Then she will talk with whatever she is sampling still in her mouth. She has also started to blow bubbles and make sounds by blowing air out of her tightly pressed lips. She has not been able to identify the difference between air and spit. This has resulted in spit on her face, hands, shirt, and Daddy all of the time!
Unity has grown very fond of standing. She will reach for you when she is laying down. If you grab her hands she will pull herself up to a sitting position then immediately push herself into a standing position. Once she is standing she looks all around and starts to dance.
We have learned that once we get used to Unity's routine she notices and deliberately changes everything just to keep mommy and daddy playing catch up. She is such a blast and knows exactly how to get what she wants from mommy and daddy.
